Discover the different types of collagen
The most important function of collagen in tissues is to ensure their firmness.
TYPE I COLLAGEN is present in tendons, ligaments, and bones, where it forms strong fibrous tissue (on the principle of ropes), as ligaments and tendons must withstand strong stretching. This type of collagen is also part of the skin. It is most abundant in marine sources (fish), but is also present in pork and beef.
TYPE II COLLAGEN is most commonly present in cartilage, where it forms dense networks of very thin fibers, as cartilage is exposed to pressure from all sides. It is most abundant in poultry and beef (cartilage).
Type III collagen is the second most common collagen in tissues. It is mainly found in tissues with elastic properties, such as skin, lungs, intestinal wall, and blood vessel walls, but is also present in bones, cartilage, dentin (coating on teeth), tendons, and other connective tissues. It is found in pork (together with type I collagen) and beef (especially abundant in the skin).

Why is collagen so important?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our body, accounting for 25 to 30% of all proteins in the body, which means about a third of the body composition, and makes up as much as 80% of the dermis. It is found in cartilage, skin, teeth, nails, muscle tendons, walls of body organs, and hair. We know as many as 16 types of collagen, and 80-90% of collagen in the body are types I, II, and III. The most widespread collagen in the body is type I collagen.
HEKA collagen is hydrolyzed, which means that the production uses a hydrolysis process in which collagen is broken down into smaller basic building blocks called peptides. Peptides are more easily broken down into basic building blocks (amino acids) in the digestive tract and are consequently more easily absorbed.
